Tucked above a detached garage in Washington Park, this compact space was thoughtfully transformed into a fully realized mother-in-law suite — equal parts welcoming retreat for out-of-town guests and functional work-from-home setup for when life calls for it. The challenge was making a small footprint feel generous in every sense, and the dual-purpose antique table at the heart of the room captures that balance perfectly: equally at home as a cozy breakfast spot or a backdrop for a Zoom call.

The design took its cues from the clients' deep affection for the East Coast — Maine, the Cape, Nantucket — places where things feel collected over time rather than decorated all at once. Antique pieces were brought in deliberately to ground the space and keep it from tipping too far into Americana territory, and the Nantucket red sofa makes no apologies for the nod it throws to those beloved summer escapes.
